Introduction Class Shibari
A full-day workshop for complete beginners – with a focus on safety, joy, and the beginning of a beautiful journey
Shibari – the traditional Japanese art of rope – is far more than just technique. It’s an invitation to connect, explore, and communicate through touch, tension, and trust. With almost two decades of experience in the art of Kinbaku, I, RopuNawa, offer you a safe and welcoming space to begin your personal journey into this powerful and intimate world.
Tying and dancing have a lot in common. Both are about leading and being led – about rhythm, intention, and connection. You move together through the ropes, and the experience becomes a dialogue between two bodies. It’s never just the rigger who leads; the model also responds, guides, and shapes the moment.
The beginning can feel overwhelming: so many techniques, so many terms, so many impressions. That’s why this workshop is carefully designed to strip away complexity and focus on the essence: clear communication, mutual respect, body awareness, and emotional presence.
What You Will Learn
In this workshop, you’ll discover how to use rope as a medium to create connection, emotion, and shared experience.
We’ll explore:
How to tie safely, with full awareness of anatomy and nerve safety
How to create clear intention in your rope
How to lead and move your partner through body manipulation and non-verbal dialogue
How to stay present, connected, and responsive during the entire process
No complicated knots are required. What matters is the quality of your touch, the clarity of your structure, and your ability to stay aware and connected.
Workshop Structure
We begin with a detailed theoretical session, where we cover:
The philosophy of tying
Consent as the foundation of all rope play
Intention and mindset: how to approach your partner with care and clarity
Then we move into the practical part, where we:
Learn a simple and effective foundation tie
Explore body manipulation and how to guide movement with one rope
Practice techniques that are useful, beautiful, and safe — whether you tie or are being tied
This is more than a technique class. It is the first step into a craft that can touch you deeply, challenge you, and ultimately connect you to yourself and others in unexpected ways.
